Just a quick update on the Palringo front...

We've boosted the time Palringo's servers keep you connected upon exiting the applicatiom from 5 mins to 10 mins. Our server architecture has proven to handle this reliably, and we'll be boosting the time further in the near future.

We've also submitted 1.2.1 to Apple, so it should be rolled out to your guys soon. We've documented a list of tweaks and fixes on our blog.

Work has now begun on version 1.3. We have a long list of features we plan to add to this release, and are very open to suggestions and recommendations, so keep sending them! :D

nice job, glad to see you guys succeeding (and for free) where mobilechat has been failing, horribly.

Sounds great! Looking forward to more improvements. I gave up entirely on MobileChat, and use only Palringo now for IMs.

Not sure if this is the right place to mention this, but wanted to make a small suggestion for another update (which I guess would be AFTER the one just submitted). It's very minor, so not a big rush -- but it would make things MUCH easier for me (and I'm sure many others). Basically, on the accounts screen (when you push the "P" on top), it's very hard to distinguish the difference between the "online" and "offline" buttons. The text is so small, and the difference is only a couple of letters, so I often confuse off for on, or vice versa. Is there any way we could have another visual indicator to better clarify what accounts are off as oppsoed to on? Maybe on could be green, off could be red, away could be yellow, etc. Or EVEN if just ONE of the either off or online buttons was different somehow, and the others were still white, it would make a huge difference.

Also, any chance of an SMS-style theme sometime in the future?

Hi Rojo, thanks for the feedback. We've also noticed "Offline" and "Online" are a bit difficult to distinguish. We tried to make it easier to tell appart these states by graying out the icon for offline services. Is this feature working for you?

It would be great if you could log into your skype account through palringo. I have no idea if that is even possible just stating that it would be great to only have one app for IMs.

I would second that. Although I'm not sure if it's possible either.

Is the "graying out the icon" for offline part of the new update you submitted? If so, that will be great!! But if it's a part of the currrent version, then it's either not working for me, or I can't notice any difference.

In Firmware version 2.1, AIM.app works correctly when typing. The auto-correction bubbles appear above the words making it way easier to type. Also, AIM.app keeps you logged in for 15 minutes.

I wasn't too fond of Palringo at first (mainly because of the disconnect at close) but now that its working its the only app I've used.. (I was a HUGE supporter of beejive and haven't logged in since Palringo 1.2 came out).

Anyway - a few of my suggestions:
1) Allow the user to change font size of the Buddy/friends list. I like the font size in the Matrix theme, its nice and small and would love to have that size option for my friends list. (Maybe having the Matrix theme extend to the main window, and not just the chat window?)

2) A way to show some of the Group Chat room names? I know this isn't designed to replace AOL and be a chat haven, but maybe a few "lobbys" that people can wander into..

3) Ability to show mobile contacts for friends. Right now it just shows them as being online, away - doesn't specify if they are on their mobile.

4) Ability to Edit a contacts info (such as change their nickname..) Right now I do that when I log into the native app on my mac and it carries over, but it would be nice if I could do it on from within Palringo (beejive does offer this although its a little flaky).

5) Ability to hide/show contacts within the App. Currently have to close the app, go into iPhone settings and choose it there, then go back in. (Same with turning vibration off/on).

I think that's it... Hopefully some of these can be implemented!

Thanks again for a great app.. you've really won me over! :)

I'm with you Hsl811

i think for everyone who gave palringo a crappy initial review should go back and revise and update their reviews to reflect the current version of palringo.........

If palringo had sms notification like mChat, and kept you in forever until you logged off... it would rival beejive.

Um yeah. MChat doesn't provide these things at all. You'll be lucky if you can log in.

@Hls811: Thanks for the cool feedback - we're considering a lot of these for Palringo 1.2

Also - We've now bumped the reconnect grace period to 15 mins! :)

Zone-MR - Can you elaborate on what the grace period does? I was under the impression that that 5/10/15 minute period allowed you to click the home button and then do other functions (check mail, check internet, etc) and you would still appear as being on-line to your friends for that duration. It seems anytime I hit the home button its logging me off the various accounts (Yahoo, AIM, MSN). I am getting my messages when I come back but my friends still tell me it shows me signing off and then back on.

Am I misunderstanding what the grace period does or is mine just not working as it is supposed to?

Thanks again!!!!

I was against palringo at first, mainly because of the interface. The improvements in the last few revisions have really made this the only IM program I use (all others, including mobilechat, beejive, AIM) have been removed because they never work properly. Keep up the good work!

A few suggestions

Landscape typing
Ability to save IM history (on your blog it says it will save unread messages, but does that include previous read messages?)
Buddy Icons

I agree with Hls811 suggestions as well.

Odd... I was checking to see if I had any apps that needed to be updated, and iTunes couldn't seem to decide whether or not 1.2.1 was actually there on sequential checks, without downloading. (I finally downloaded during one of the times it showed up as being present.)

Is apple using multiple servers in the US, and adding new files to some before others?
