Hey guys,

I dropped my iPhone about a week ago and cracked the screen. Apple graciously agreed to repair it for free (and I was prepared to pay $250), but I'm worried about the new panel I got.

My previous iPhone was a 5 series panel, but my new one is a 7 series panel. I remember there being a thread about the differences between these two, but I can's seem to find it now. If my memory serves me correctly, the concensus was that the 5 series panels were superior to the 7 series panels.

Can anyone point me towards that thread or provide any thoughts about the difference between the two?

It's very simple: Look at your phone's screen. Does it look okay to you? If it does, then you have nothing to worry about.

FWIW, there never was any verdict. There are people who prefer the 7 series screens and say that 5 screens are defective. There's another camp that says exactly the opposite.

Further complicating matters is that there are at least two different panel IDs that start with the number 7. So there are really two (if not more) different types of 7 screens out there now.

Gotcha. Your solution is the most obvious. :D Unfortunately, I had it sent to my wife's job, and she checked the panel ID for me. At this point, I haven't actually seen the replacement screen/phone myself, which is part of the reason I was inquiring about it.
