Too bad we can't buy tweaks at the moment

What I never understand is piracy when there are only a handful of tweaks that cost more than $5.

People willingly expose themselves to all the possible consequences in order to save themselves 99¢ or $1.99.

I'm cheap, but I'm not so cheap as to rip off the devs who give us the benefits of jailbreaking. Without them, all we have is root access with nothing to install.

Exactly right eyoungren. I mean ripping off jailbreak devs that take care of us with amazing tweaks that just cost less than a cup of coffee? Seems low class, short-sighted, and intentionally scummy. I hope anyone that gets hacked because of this ghetto behavior learns a valuable lesson.

They might not be ripping off the Cydia tweak developers. They might use something they get, like an app from a shady repo, to download apps like App*##*, to download pirated AppStore apps, which could also be modified with Malware. They could use a shady repo to download something like Music*#* to pirate music, or Movie*#* to pirate movies, TV shows, etc...

Some AppStore apps can cost big $$, especially when you want many apps.

Many moons ago when I first JB I did homework on tweaks via YouTube , Google and followed most of the guides and inserted what I didn't at first realise was to be shady repos for cracked tweaks. My bad. :(

After learning more and coming across glitches as these tweaks were sometimes out of date / cracked I soon caught up from posts here and elsewhere, deleted the tweaks and shady repos and bought the tweaks via Cydia.

My experience was a learning curve.

I do agree that we have to support the developers. I understand why some want to test out tweaks before buying which drives some to this alternative method. They then delete the cracked version and buy them. Hopefully.

I recall past discussions where it could be an idea if possible for the developers to add a free trial period or maybe lite version to try out for a limited period before buying.

Yes most tweaks are not expensive but on the flip side for some of the younger generation this can be different for their disposable income so being able to try before buy would be a good avenue.

Anyway sorry I digress ;)

I understand this.

I will admit to a less than upstanding use of one tweak some time ago for one specific reason. I had bought the tweak, but between upgrades from one firmware jailbreak to another the dev had not updated the tweak. It still worked, but the legit repo would not allow it to be installed on the new firmware whereas the less than legit repo would.

My sole justification for that was that I had purchased the tweak already.

In any case, I feel that trial options for paid tweaks are seriously lacking. There should be some sort of full use for a limited period, ads after that for a limited period and then non-functionality until the tweak is purchased.

Since just about anyone can put up a repo and populate it trial use would probably go a ways to defeating piracy.

And I do understand price and economics having been there (and only a small step removed from it now) myself. On the other hand, I've more than once purchased a tweak only to never install it again because it didn't work for me. At those times I consider it a donation to the dev. :)
