I'm thinking that since this is a new problem that it needs a new post?

Original post for big sur update problem is here:

Late 2015 imac 27" desktop. Original problem was booting up after update. After many solutions that did not work. I erased the drive and reinstalled Big Sur. Then I started having panic kernel every 15 min. Thought the solution might be to go back to Catalina. I now have erased everything again and installed Catalina. All is fine with catalina except I still have a panic kernel every 15 min or so. This prevents me from restoring any of my data through time machine disk or through migration from my laptop. I can deal with that in other ways but cannot figure out what is causing the panic kernel. It appears that something is timing out. Is it ok to post the panic data here for someone knowledgeable on panic kernel to look at?

Panics are sometimes caused by bad RAM. What do you have for RAM? (Make and size of each stick).

I think it is "ok" to post panic data, as people have done that before, but I wouldn't expect to get much feedback. I don't remember ever seeing a thread where someone diagnosed the issue from panic data, but you might get lucky.

I have 24 total ram, 2 4's and 2 8's. 1867mhz DDR3 I don't recall the make, I installed them several years ago. They are not apple brand.

OK, take out one pair (say the two 4's) and try that.
Then do the opposite and take out the other pair (the two 8's) and try that.

If you are lucky, this process of elimination might show one stick/pair is bad, which will be an easy fix

btw, each matched pair of sticks should be installed in slots 1&3 or slots 2&4

Worth a try, will have to wait until I have help lifting it though. I did check the system report and it says all 4 are ok.

It's unlikely I can help with the panics but you can post the contents of the kernel panic report in code tags (so it doesn't take up the whole page :) )
Copy the text then in the reply box click on the 3 vertical dots next to the smiley face up above then choose the right side option in the drop down options "code" (it's a left arrow then a slash then a right arrow) then paste in what you've copied.

I hope this worked. If not I am sorry to have taken up so much space. You can delete.
