I have a bit of an emergency situation so prompt response would be immensely appreciated.

I just tried to update to the 2.0 firmware on my 1st gen iPhone, and after the software reinstalled I did a sync to get my info back in the phone.

It reinstalled my apps, music, videos, and photos, but COMPLETELY failed to restore my contacts and txts. I desperately need to get in touch with someone back at home, but I have lost my contacts and can't get them. I synced the phone before I did the upgrade to make sure my data was safe, but I don't have ANY of it now.

What the heck can I do? Thanks in advance.

did you have them in your address book?
try checking.

I don't use that app on my Mac. When I had phone trouble before and got a new iPhone to replace the faulty one, it synced my contacts perfectly. Now I have no clue why it didn't this time. :(

I know that the software update does erase all of your text messages (at least I'm pretty sure). But I know it doesn't erase the contacts. I don't want to sound patronizing, but I have to make sure. Are you looking at your contacts or are you looking at your favorites (in contacts). Because when I updated all my contacts were there but all my favorites were gone.

I double checked. All of them are gone. Favorites AND contacts.

techage14 is right, although you haven't added them through AddressBook.app, if you were previously syncing it with the phone, they should still be on your Mac in there.

Just stumbled into a solution.

Did a restore through iTunes and saw you can click in the drop down box on where to restore from... I picked a sync from 2 days ago and got my photos, contacts, and txts back. With the exception of those from the last 2 days, but that's a small price to pay.

Thanks to the few who tried to help. It's well appreciated.
