In trivia news... but perhaps less trivial to designers:

Nonetheless, Pantone’s choice of blue iris, or No. 18-3943, got some news media attention last week, which seemed to be partly the objective of the company, which is based in Carlstadt, N.J. In a statement, Leatrice Eiseman, the executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, said: “Blue Iris brings together the dependable aspects of blue, underscored by a strong, soul-searching purple cast. Emotionally, it is anchoring and meditative with a touch of magic.”

I do have to admit I'd been seeing a lot of blue spectrum this year... In fact I rather need a new powder-blue shirt to go with a new trim suit I ordered from Yoox.

Every time I hear the design guys talk about colours for new icons and such I can't help but think of the scene in Fight Club where the boss says "Can we get the icon in cornflower blue?"

Having checked out the colour here it certainly is bold... which might limit it's appeal.

Yes, it is really quite bold to be used in excess. I think what some of the quoted individuals were saying was more that blue tonal panels were being seen a lot this year (perhaps with a color like this as a focal color used sparingly). That I certainly agree with.

Our stage set for our conference in early 2008 is going to be a pale warm blue, my choice... there was some soul-searching involved, but not much magic. I yam on teh bleeding edge of design. :D

Unfortunately, we're limited to a range of about 40 colours or so from the expo felt specifier but with some coloured gobos etc.

I would have to agree, since I remembered it was from the The X-Files, and (apparently) almost 12 years ago. About the only thing I remember from that era, is that I don't remember much from that era. :)

Too true. I ate some mushrooms one night, only for them to play the infamous "Home" episode in it's original run. Simply terrifying. Many things I won't remember, but that ain't one of them.
