Where bunnies are welcome.
After many years, I decided to finally upgrade my mid-2009 MBP's OS from Snow Leopard to the current version of El Capitan (10.11.5), since I just couldn't see any advantage to upgrading before that and SL did all I needed. However, due to my work requiring an upgrade to Citrix, which wasn't supported by SL, I had to make the plunge. I got TotalFinder (I still can't believe Finder hasn't implemented several of the features in that app) to work after using a workaround, but Parallels doesn't work, even though their website says it is supported by El Capitan. I'm guessing it is supported by previous versions of El Capitan, but not 10.11.5? Does anyone have Parallels working on 10.11.5?

What version of Parallels do you have? I believe you need Parallels 11.

Exactly what do you mean by "Parallels doesn't work"? Does it not load, or does Parallels load and not the Windows OS? Is there an error message? Are there any messages in the console logs for when you try to start Parallels?

Doesn't start. Doesn't load. Nothing.

I get a message it is not supported.

As stated in the OP, do you have experience with it working in 10.11.5?

If you are getting a message that it is not supported, it sounds like it it trying to open an old version. Do you still have an old version on your drive.

I would try to delete all versions you have of Parallels and install afresh.

That's the first thing I did, i.e., uninstalled. Like I said, do you have experience with it working in 10.11.5? I'm aware it worked in previous versions of El Capitan.

Sorry, no personal experience, but from a search of the web, I don't see anyone else complaining of this problem.

I did a search, as well. If you look at the Parallels website, you'll see that they talk about 10.11.4 and previous versions, but there's no mention of 10.11.5.

I had no problems with installing Parallels 9 and using a Windows 8.1 VM created with Parallels 10 on El Capitan. The key for 10 did not work anymore because of too many clean installs. But later I updaded to 11 because it was bundled with some apps and two of them like 1Password and PDF Expert are both alone more expensive then the whole update bundle had been.

You're on 10.11.5?

Testing in a new User will quickly tell you if the problem is system wide or if it's your User's folder that contains the problem.

You can use the Guest User or create a new User for testing.

CREATE A NEW USER

Go to System Preferences --> Create a New User in Users & Groups.
Switch to the New User by logging out/in or use Fast User Switching.

Only default Apple apps will be in the Dock in the new User. Go to Applications to open Parallels

Do you still see the issue?

If yes, then the problem is with your base files.
If no, then the problem is in your User's folder.

Try the solutions in the link I posted above.
Thanks. I had deleted the app, but I didn't delete it from the trash like the link you said to do. That fixed it. I also had chose to leave files when deleting the app, so this time I chose to not leave files, so that might have also had something to do with it. All working now.

Thanks, again.
