Parallels - can I use Win XP upgrade?

I have given enough money to microsoft, over the years I have bought

• Win 98SE - (from the dark ages)
  
• Win XP home upgrade (Was on a computer a gave to my parents - PC died recently)
  
• Win XP Pro Academic upgrade with SP2 (was on my old desktop which died recently)
  
  
  and
  
  
• Win XP home full OEM (which I use via bootcamp)

if i get parallels, can i use the XP home upgrade and the serial from 98SE to get XP running in parallels ? or do you get the same problem with needing to slipstream to get a "full" version of XP

if I have XP installed both via bootcamp and parallels, but they are different legitimate versions with different serial numbers, will I avoid the problems with activation that people have with the beta of parallels?

No, you can't use the upgrade edition, because part way through the install, it will ask you to eject the XP CD and insert your CD from the older version of Windows. Due to the Mac not having an eject button, and the keyboard drivers that let you use the eject button on the keyboard not being installed until after Windows is installed, it won't work.

bummer, thanks for the info.
i'll wait to see whether future parallels updates fix the activation problems, and see what leopard offers - no way i'm buying ANOTHER windows license.

Yes, it'll work fine, you just need to unmount the CD from Parallels then eject from the Finder, put the new one in and remount.

Better still, use Disk Utility to create DMG or ISO images of the two discs and have Parallels mount the images instead of the physical drive. I've found that goes A LOT faster than using the discs themselves....

Or follow the same routine as needed for Boot Camp and create a disc that contains XP and 98.
