Parallels/Direct X/Albatross 18

Hello,

I have downloaded this game and attempted to run it in Windows under Parallels and it seems to not be able run this game-something relating to direct X and the graphics card. I have read that the new version of parallels supports a higher version of direct X and 3D capability. On looking at the system specs for this game it says it needs Direct X 8.1 or higher-would this be covered in my version of Parallels or would I need to upgrade to the newer version of Parallels 3??

I don't really want to spend out on an updated version of Parallels unless it's necessary as I don't normally play games on my mac. I would be interested to know if anyone else has attempted to run this online game.

You will need to upgrade, because 3d support appeared only in Parallels 3.0. It supports DX 8.1 and OpenGL so I assume that the game will work.

Thanks for your reply. I have just upgraded to the new version of parallels(3.0) and attempted to run that game and it still reported back the same error:

You need Direct X version 8.1 or higher(seems strange considering that the new version now supports Direct X 8)

And something about my graphics card efficiency??? I have tried to run it in a lower resolution(16bit) as well as a smaller screen with still no luck. Could it be that my Mac's graphics card is not upto running such a game?

Here's the specs listed to be able to run it:

CPU: Pentium III 800Mhz or higher, Memory: 256MB or higher, Platform: Windows 98/98SE/ME/2000/XP, Graphics Card: Geforce 2MX or higher, DirectX Version: DirectX 8.1 or higher.

I'm using a C2D 20" iMac.

Have you enabled DirectX in Parallels by going to configuration - > video -> enable direct x?

Hello,

Moonislune thanks for letting me know about that setting, unfortunatly It still won't let me play this game even after selecting that option in the preferences area in parallels itself, although it does appear to get further than It did beforehand.

I guess it's one of those games that just won't run no matter what!!!
