I have parallels 4 installed and I want to install windows XP. My school gives us legal copies of windows 98 and a windows xp upgrade. However, neither of these comes in the form of a CD image. They are both .exe files. Parellels asks for a CD or CD image. Is there a way to install windows 98 from an .exe in parallels? And if so will I be able to use the windows xp upgrade once i have windows 98 installed? I haven't yet tried creating a CD image with the exe file on it. I don't know if this would work because it's all in one file and not a typical windows install disk. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

You cant install any Windows from an EXE. Its like trying to get an egg without a chicken. Windows runs exe's so you cant use exe's to install Windows.
I doubt Parallels even supports Windows 98 and youll need XP with a certain service pack already on it (not that it matters if all you have is an exe which simply cant be an operating system). How big are the files that you have?

Parallels supports windows 98. The fact you got "Exe" files and not ISO files means they're just service pack upgrades most likely, you don't have the true copy of windows.
Or they do what my college did. You get a link to an exe which will then download the ISO for you. The downside is you can't actually download the image without a functioning Windows install. I never did figure out who the genius was that thought it was a good idea for an OS install CD/DVD...
