when i need to run some intense apps, like autocad, i'm running them in bootcamp so i use the system's full potential.

but i'm on the mac-side most of the time. but when i want to run the odd windows-only application, i don't want to reboot and run it in bootcamp (unless it's really heavy on the cpu and gpu load)

which do you recommend? parallels or vmware fusion?

i like the option to run windows apps as if they were mac apps in vmware fusion (unity) very much! i could definitely see myself using this every day.

which would be best in my situation?

I'm a VMWare Fusion user. I use to be a Parallels user but I've found Fusion to have better performance as well as better Linux support.

I think its a toss up if your just running Windows apps. FYI--Both Fusion and Parallels allow you to run your Bootcamp partition in a virtualized environment for when your not running Autocad.

Both have their fans, and I'm not sure either has been demonstrated to be vastly superior to the other. Opinons are based on individual experiences, good or bad with each product, but may not be representative of the whole.

You may want to get the trial versions of both and try them out yourself.
