Parallels Problems, Windows 98

Hello, i'm trying to install Windows 98 sing Parallels Desktop, however, i set up the VM and start it up, but the only thing it gives me is: No boot device available, press Enter to continue. i've tried booting from the CD drive, (i have a legit copy of windows) and i have also made an .iso of the CD and tried that. What am i doing wrong, can someone please help. All i want is Windows 98 on my Mac!

you can't have Windows 98 installed. it won't work. XP SP2 is the lowest you can go.

where do you get your information from?

Run any OS at the Same Time as Mac OS X
Use any version of Windows (3.1, 3.11, 95, 98, Me, 2000, NT, XP, 2003), any Linux distribution, FreeBSD, Solaris, OS/2, eComStation, or MS-DOS in secure virtual machines running alongside – not instead of - Mac OS X

This is why I wasn't crazy about Boot Camp and parallels. It just opens the door to questions like this. And stupid switchers who buy mac hardware and revert back to their crappy operating system.

Don't run Windows 98. It's a desktop operating system that was barely able to handle the implications of a LAN, let alone the Internet.

Maybe he needs a copy of Windows 98 for reasons you can't possibily know about.

You are more likely to find someone who has installed Win98 over there.

Didn't windows 98 need a floppy boot disk to start up the install process. To load bios and initial boot drivers. These were later included on the CD of later operating systems ME,XP....

Windows 98SE was able to boot from CD.

To the OP - for me I've found the best solution is to install Boot Camp, install XP or Vista, and then install Virtual PC 2004 and put Win98 in that.

FYI - Virutal PC 2004 is free!

The OP wants to do it in Parallels - Boot Camp isn't everyone.

By the way, in case PPC users get excited about VPC being free, it's free for Windows only (I know that's the version you're talking about). It's still $129 for the Mac version

The OP said "All i want is Windows 98 on my Mac!"

He did not say he didn't want to run Boot Camp. All he says is he has parallels.

Which is why I said, "for me I've found the best solution is..."

I know this is an old post, but on build 3188 this is how you do it:

You just need to change the boot order to put CD first. Provided you have Windows 98 SE anyway. Do this here;
Edit->Virtual Machine->Boot

Just change the boot order and the problem you describe will be circumvented.
