I have had my MacBook from virtually day one. I am paranoid about the reported stains.

What was the problem, would they have appeared already if there was a problem with my MacBook. Was it due to a combination of the plastic and the person using it ??

All I want to know is that if it has not appeared so far will it ever appear ??

Also is there any protectors you can recommend

Thanks

If you havent seen anything yet, you are probably fine. Even if it does discolor down the road it seems that AppleCare is actually covering some laptop, reported by AppleInsider.

I was going to say the same thing, if staining is a problem with your MacBook, then Apple will replace it. But if so far you have not encountered the staining phenomenon, then you will probably be okay. :)

well, only one day. you never know. discoloration seems to be appeared after 2 weeks use. so you have to keep watching it. but I heard that macbook has more than serial NO 4H624. they don't have any problem at all. I guess yours are 4H625 or 4H626 which possibly has different color on surface of palm rest, touchpad click, around. I mean it's like more dark grey rather than light color, and different feeling when you touch it. so you don't have to worry about it.

Mine's a week 21, and I've had mine for about a month, and No discolouration. I work in a Tool and Die shop, so I'm around lots of oil, grease, coolant, and solvents. I use my macbook on break every day, and my hands probably have a little shop gunk still on them, so i'm sure my macbook should be discoloured if it was susceptible. I clean it weekly with a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser, and spot clean it with a kleenex tissue.

No problems so far.

Thanks guys,

Why don't apple just replace all macbooks in the faulty batches?

I think that would probably cost Apple too much money. Better to put the onus on the consumer and/or hope the problem doesn't manifest with every Macbook in the batch. It'd also be terribly bad press for Apple to recall them all.....
