Aloha everyone,
Imagine my surprise when, after jokingly referring to a Mac Pro as something that would certainly make the room look better, my wife told me that I would only have to wait for another 10 months! You see, we bought my iMac at the local CompUSA using their credit card - 24 months with NO interest. We're going to pay it off in 20 months, and then .....
My plan is to make my house a Macintosh-only zone. Step 1 was accomplished when I purchased my 20" Core Duo iMac. Step 2 was accomplished when I purchased my 15" Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro. Step 3 will be accomplished once I get my Mac Pro - my wife will then get the iMac and we can chuck the PCs (or maybe donate them to the Shriner's Hospital in town).
I do have a question. I manage simulation and ABCS systems at work, and implement Active Directory domains more often than not. How is Open Directory, as compared to Active Directory? One thing I'm considering purchasing along with the Mac Pro is Mac OS X Server, so as to manage the other Macs via Open Directory. I want to learn as much as possible about using Mac OS X Server in a Macintosh-only network, and if my wife OKs the added expense, I'll be able to do just that.
Of course, when I purchase my Mac Pro, Leopard will be on the prowl and I hope that we'll have even more hardware choices (along with Apple lowering their RAM prices, if that ever happens ). If there are any network administrators of Mac-only networks or any who administer mixed Mac-Windows networks, I would like to hear their comments with respect to Open Directory, especially with respect to how it compares to Active Directory.
