I want to know if I can partition my drive with a small portion 25gb without having to reinstall the software from scratch. I know you used to be able to do this with bootcamp, but not sure if there is a workaround for the new M1 Macs.

Don’t try to partition on the M1 Macs. The SSD is using Apple File System (APFS) which supports multiple volumes, logically separate but all sharing the same space. Volumes serve the purpose that partitioning used to. They are easy to create and destroy in Disk Utility.

I agree with what @chabig says. Use space sharing APFS volumes in the same container if possible, which it usually is.
The exception where I have created a separate container (=partition) is to have a bootable installer, which has to be created on HFS+, so requires separate container. You can do this with Disk Utility without having to reformat the whole drive, but make sure of good back up first!
