any ideas on what to do???

Are you booting off the hard disk you're trying to alter? You cannot boot up off your main hard drive and then try to repartition it.

Secondly do you have a backup of your data/system? Doing any partition work, really means you should have a backup. Mostly because the task of repartitioning a drive can be destructive, i.e., the partitions get formatted.

Reboot and run disk utility and see if those errors continue. A partition process may have started and failed to finish correctly, or may just be that you tried to alter the drive while it was locked.

try running the partitioner in disk utility with the macosx install disk
