Partitioning a Pismo without disc

Hey all. Sorry for bringing up this old question again but I have searched and searched with no answer.

I dont have the original disc of OS9. So I obtained a .dmg image of the disc and tried to boot that.

Ideally I would like to partition the hard drive and duel boot with ubuntu. How is it possible to have the Mac recognize the .dmg image of the Mac OS9 disc? I want to be able to get into disk setup and initialize the partition process.

I'm upgrading the RAM today

can you boot into target disk mode? i had an iBook that had a broken drive, that how i had to format and partition the drive.

from there, if you have an older mac, you can burn the OS9 disk and book on one computer and select the pismo as the target disk to install to. i don't know how to go about ubuntu. but i'm sure you can do something similar. boot one computer with unbuntu then mount the pismo into target disk, mount it, and install to that disk.

i hope that was followable. i also hope the pismo can do target disk or else the whole point is moot.

The problem is that I only have PC otherwise. I thought I could burn the .dmg file of the OS9 disk on my Windows machine and the Mac then recognize the disc as the original OS and thus allow me into the Drive Setup to partition. But it didn't.

Am I burning the disk image wrong? Should it be an ISO?
