Can/how would one partition a Mac Hardrive?

I'm going to make the assumption that you're using a Mac. Try Disk Utility located in Applications>Utilities folder on your HD. Launch the app and click on the drive you want to partition. Click on partition and select the number of partitions you wish to create. One is a good idea, usually. :)

So, pretty much its like Windoze, where you can't partition the boot disk without going to a GREAT amount of trouble

Basically what I want to do is create an OS partition, a media partition, and an everything else partition.

My reasoning behind this is to have everything related in one place, and keep seek times down, and have everything nice and organized. I'm not a huge fan of one 80 gig partition on my Pbook.

I am new to owning Macs (work on them all the time though) and I am going mostly off my experiance with Windows. Will it make a big difference in OSX, or will I just be wasting my time?

My house!
A few things to keep in mind:

1. When you partition it, you will lose everything that is on the hard drive currently if you use Disk Utility thats build into OS X.

2. If you want to partition the hard drive without lose information, check out DiskStudio from Micromat. They're the makers of TechTool Pro 4, which is a great hard disk utility.

Here is a link to DiskStudio:

3. Some OS X apps will ONLY install/run on the bootable volume (partition). Apple's applications are some that do that.
