Password Managers - Why you chose what you did?

I chose bitwarden because it was free and as good as any other password manager out there. If you really wish to self host it, you could do that too. Its secure and free.
Do you know how they make their money and why they offer the free service, without Googling the answer?
When you have time, you might want to read this, in regards to BitwardenI do. Well, I think I doOn reddit this question was asked and the answer was that there's really only one person on the payroll and they get enough dosh from people willing to pay for the family or business accounts.

I have been using iAccounts since 2010 (iPhone3 days) works great on every iOS since then (so far) and it was $10 (Back then) and I have it on 2 phones, 2 ipads and 2 MBP's all synced and working fine with same data on each.
The developer gave up about 5 years ago and left the app on the app store N/C - AFAIK it's still there - too bad - i think it is a great great app.
That said, maybe someone will tell me it is a risk problem - but it still works for me - anyway it's days are probably numbered considering the next OSX and next iOS - my guess the next updates will be the end - i am surprised it made it this far on iOS.

Consider using 1Password. You can buy the non-subscription version from their website. They also offer a fully versioned trial period with the app.OK - I throw myself to the wolves too - LOL -

I have tried many password managers over the years. And in my opinion, 1password is the best.
I would not keep using an abandoned app, even if it seems to be working for you. It may not be safe.
I use LastPass. It's the only one I found with free cross platform sync. Previously I've used 1Password, but it's got too expensive. Of course password security is important, and certainly has value - but why pay when there are free alternatives?
It's always worth checking why they're free. Most of them have limited functionality, and are basically demos trying to upsell you to the paid version, which is ok by me. The premium features of LastPass don't appeal to me, so I don't feel I'm missing out.

Yes I do. They offer a premium plan for larger storage. That's the thing if you dont trust the guy you have the option of self hosting it.
But you are not able to buy a standalone license via website. You have to buy it while installing the (Windows) app.
I used the 30 days trial period and came to the conclusion to buy a subscription.
When I decided to use another solution to store my passwords I wanted to manage all locally for security reasons and concerns. I wanted to have a password safe that is saved locally on my devices and that I'm able to sync like I want to sync e.g. via Dropbox or iCloud. I liked the idea of having my passwords locally and be able to manually sync. So I wanted to use 1Password with a standalone license. But to use my passwords on different devices I had to buy standalone licenses for all of my operating systems like Windows, iOS and Android too. But I still want to have the option to use the next version of 1Password. But for every new version I want to use I have to buy standalone licenses again. And that would be much more expensive for me then buying the annual subscription.
Then I tried the 1Password membership and I have to say, that this is exactly what I want to have. All my passwords are locally on my devices. So if I don't have an internet connection I still be able to use my password entries. Like I have a lot of entries for local things too. I'm allowed and able to use 1Password on every operation system I want to use it and I'm also able to use the newest version of all the apps. And all of my passwords are synced in a second to my other devices. I don't have to think about external sync via a 3rd party company. All works very well. That's why I paid for the annual subscription.

Years ago, I did a comparison review of password managers for a blog I worked for at the time. I really liked DataVault and just stuck with it after the piece was done. A while after, I wound up going to work for the company that develops DataVault (there are two people). I still use DataVault even though I haven't worked for them in a couple of years now. I trust the app and I trust the two men behind it.

Thanks for the correction! You can pay for the license when you launch the Mac app also.
I only use the Windows app. But it's good to know that you can buy in the Mac app also.
I have chosen Enpass for the following reasons:
- no subscription
- free desktop version including cloud sync
- one-time payment for iOS version
- very reasonable pricing/upgrades
- you can sync via your own cloud
- has a lot of functionality (not far behind 1Password I would say)

No, they don't want to promote this possibility in public. They want you to join the subscription. But if you want to buy a standalone license you have to do it while installing the apps.
