Password not working??

I have a IMac and a macbook, the password works on the macbook but not on the IMac, both have the same login name.

Tried 'command+R to change the password, don't work.
Created a temp login name with admin right to change password, don't work

Any ideas

So you say you've tried using cmd+R to change it - but did you make sure to go into terminal and type "resetpassword"
