Password protected partition?

My father decided he would take it on his responsibility to "save space" on my iMac the other day and deleted a folder called "Original" for my videos that come straight off of my camera, many of which were not imported into Final Cut X so they are now gone forever.

I would like to make a separate partition on my hard drive to store all of my raw format videos which I've already done, however I would like to password protect it so no one can delete anything from it by "Accident" again as many of those shots I'm never going to get again.

I made a 500GB partition to store videos and now I don't know what to do next to password protect it so others may not edit, delete, or even access the partition for all I care. I want my stuff safe from "space saving" eyes lol

I was also considering the option of buying an external and hiding it while I'm out so my important files are safe.

Just setup a user account for your dad and make sure you have him log into his own account when he uses the computer. Make sure you leave the system at the login window when you leave it....much easier.

Well I found on OS X Daily a tutorial on how to make a blank read/write image file to use for storing videos, no partitions, no mess, I need a password to open it, and its hidden away in the applications folder with a custom icon I found on google of a folder with a combination lock on it.

My father also has his own 3.1GHz 27" iMac, he bought a brand new one in the spring (early or mid 2012) and let me buy his old one from the year before (mid 2011) however his office is off limits to everyone but him so there's no use for a user account when he has the updated twin to my iMac.

sidewinder said it best. This is what user accounts are for. Just saw OP reply. If he has his own system then you should make one on yours for him to use. Either way, he needs to use his account when on your computer if he is going to delete files you need.
