I am creating a family website with IWeb and plan to post it through MobileMe. (first-time Mac user and website creator). I know how to password protect the website, but wanted some feedback on how secure the password protection is. I plan to post pictures of my family and friends, which include many children and I am sensitive to limiting who can view those pictures.

Thanks so much!

There is no sure way to protect your gallery, even with a password you have the chance of who your relatives and friends tell, if some run windows then you have key logger fears and determined hackers will get what they please anyway.
My point is mainly no matter how hard you try to protect your information on the internet you have the chance someone will break into it or that google will just bypass it.

Well, how secure the password protection is depends on the technique you used for password protection, which you didn't mention. So there's no way to truly answer your question without guessing what technique you used.

Am using IWeb to password protect

Thanks for the feedback so far -- I am using the password protection features that IWeb has. Any additional thoughts/feedback?

Unfortunately that doesn't tell "me" much. I'm not sure what technique Apple uses on MobileMe, and whether the user name and password are sent as clear text or not. Also, if it was encrypted, what level of encryption (e.g., AES 128/256).

Though no matter what they used, it's never perfect, but usually reasonable. For a family site, I'm sure what they have setup is sufficient, just don't post your families social security numbers, or any other extra sensitive information. Also make sure to use a strong password as that's very important to keep hackers out.

Sorry I can't help more, I've never even been to a password-protected MobileMe site. I have setup my own password protection using SSL, but that doesn't really help here.
