Has anyone experienced an issue where the MacBook is required a password every single time you log on? Touch ID still works once I’m in, and even works with fast user switching, but if I log off the Mac (no reboot) it should let me log in with Touch ID right?

No. A password is always required to log in. Your TouchID credentials are encrypted and securely stored. Typing the correct password is how you prove your identity to unlock them. After the first log in, TouchID will work until you log out or reboot.

Oh okay, thank you! For some reason I thought once I had logged in after reboot I wouldn't be asked for a password again until the next reboot or after 48 hours of no usage. Honestly I hardly use my mac except for DJ gigs so I guess I just never noticed!

Keep in mind the differences between Reboot, Log Out, and Lock. I don't log out of my Mac user, ever. When I leave the machine, I lock it. When it is locked, you can unlock with Touch ID.

Go to System Settings/Privacy and Security-click on "Advanced" (at the bottom of the page) and de-select "Logout automatically after inactivity".
I forgot about that - thanks for the reminder, I was wondering why I had to type in my password more then I should have.

I think there's a time limit. If you've been on lock screen or in sleep mode for longer than x minutes the password is required, otherwise password or TouchID will unlock.

There it is, password required after 5 minutes hibernation or screensaver. This limit can be set to up to 8 hours.

I had the same problem, but solved:

Go to System Settings/Privacy and Security-click on "Advanced" (at the bottom of the page) and de-select "Logout automatically after inactivity".
Mine is de-selected and I still have to key in my password every now and then. Sometimes it's after a couple of days, sometimes it feels like several hours. Sometimes it lets it unlock with my Apple Watch or Touch ID.
