At WWDC (for those of you who haven't seen the video) SJ invites intel CEO Paul Otellini on stage and publicly thanks him for his involvement in the successful transition of the Mac from the PPC platform to the intel platform.

He then presents him a gorgeous trophy, designed by Jonny Ives, which Steve points out is made from polished stainless steel and is "really beautiful" . I agreed at the time and thought it was indeed very beautiful (by now you've probably guessed where this is going).

So I thought hmm, why would Apple Inc's design team just happen have lots of stainless steel lying around to play with? Could it be we may have seen a preview of the finish on the case of the rumoured stainless steel iMac?

Steve obviously likes the material as it is used as the outer bevel around iPhone.

Or am I just putting two and two together and getting a number greater than four?

Your thoughts…

You may be on to something. I think the Aluminum is fat more trick than stainless. I am patiently awaiting the new imacs because that will be my first mac! I am sure though from all I've seen that whatever Apple does, it will look good. :)

I agree that you seem to have made a good point. Steve never says anything for nothing... there's always a subliminal message in there somewhere.... :p But September is a long way away to await new iMacs as I don't see them rolling out on a casual Tuesday.
