Pausing downloads

Is there any way to pause the download on safari? I can only seem to stop a download, not pause one

Often times if you stop a download you can resume it later, though i believe this depends on the download type or server.

The stop button is basically the pause button. Most downloads will start back up from where it left off. You can even hit the stop button. Reboot your computer, then just double click on the Safari Download in the Finder and it will continue or restart your download. But if you reboot before hitting the stop button or Safari does a unexpected quit, then sometimes the Safari download file doesn't work and wont start the download again.
