Pay and go sim in contract iPhone

Couldn't find an answer to this question in the forums so thought I would make a new thread. I am considering buying a second-hand iPhone (1st generation) and putting my current pay and go sim card into it. However I am unsure whether I need to buy and "unlocked" or "already pay and go" iPhone in order to do this.

For your information my current sim card is from 02 and so I do not want to hack the iPhone so that it works with another network.

The only real plan for the iPhone is getting the actualy plan meant for it.

So if I were to get an iPhone that was already pay and go I should be fine?

A 1st Gen O2 phone (ie a UK iPhone) will work with any O2 SIM card is my understanding. I use a Simplicity SIM in mine.

Just a follow up here. Found this http://service.o2.co.uk/IQ/SRVS/CGI...E=0000000002276064182,K=7998,Sxi=5,CASE=13373 which gave me my answer. Not sure if AT&T have a similar policy in the US but it seems I can put a pay and go sim in an 02 phone no problem.
Hope this helps anyone else with a similar problem.
