So I seem to recall that when you get your iPad, you automatically get access to all the apps which you've already bought. Does that mean that for those with iPad and Iphone, you only need to buy the app once for both devices??

That's what I understood from Apple but developers might make an iPad-specific version of their app that will be sold separatly.
Yep. Developers could easily make an iPad version and sell it separately. At least, they could change the name and you would have to rebuy it.
Of course you don't have to rebuy (or more correctly buy the iPad specific version). You can just continue to use the iPhone version on your iPad. You only need to buy the iPad version if you like the additional features and/or screen usage.
Yes, my program currently runs on iPhone and will run on iPad as is. However, I will be creating a specific iPad version. What if you only have an iPad and you want to use my program? Should you be penalized by buying an iPhone only version? Hence, why I will make an iPad version taking advantage of the screen size and split content views.
But that defeats the purpose of buying a tablet, doesn't it? I guess that if you buy a 3rd device you take into account the cost of buying more content to it, unless you're satisfied with the built-in apps.
Whenever you buy an App you have access to 5 devices as long as they are on the same account. So as long as you have 4 or less you will be fine.
Developers are pretty much free, as I understand it, to do this and/or to design "universal" apps that offer different features depending on whether they're used on an iPad or an iPhone, so that users would pay once and get both experiences.
Slight correction. An app can be used on 5 COMPUTERS provided they are authorized on the iTunes account.
That does not limit the number of iDevices you can have it on....
I haven't seen any resources on that. Much easier for me to make two separate versions.
Ok, so it's really not that bad to make a universal binary. However, I question how many developers realize you can do this![]()
The question is whether it'll pay off for developers since they'll have to charge the same price for both the iPhone and iPad versions even though they'll probably have to work harder on the iPad version. Maybe they'll offer the option to choose whether you want to buy the app for a single device or for both.
Any updates to this...
I'm on the fence right now, but I really don't want to have re-purchase all my iPhone apps just so they don't look blurry on the iPad!
