paying 55$ on a cooling pad..worth it?!

so i have like 9 computer stores around...i seen many cooling pad models..most of them are plastic with 3 fans and usb hub...some are glass with weird blue light...and others are aluminum..so i honestly loved one of the aluminum pads which costs 55$..it has 2 very quite fans and 1 extra usb..

would it make a difference?
would its lip lock the cd driver in the 15'' mbp?

any opinions or thoughts are welcomed;)
 
I bought a cooling pad but never use it. I got it because I was doing a lot of professional writing and it bugged me when my keyboard got too hot. But the better solution was to get an external monitor and keyboard, which I did.

Not that I made that purchasing decision any better. I got a cheap keyboard and ended up replacing it with an apple wireless professional w/bluetooth, which is much better. And I got a cheap 19" LCD monitor, and its okay, but it doesn't hold a candle to my friend's 22" WS HP. I should have just bought high quality stuff from the beginning and I've learned my lesson now.
 
I've had a chilling pad for awhile. Got a stand and never noticed a temp. difference. That and the fact it had other benefits; but definitely check it out before playing the plunge.
 
I do a lot of gaming, and cooling pads never get in the way for me. They keep my notebook running good and I love having additional USB ports. I think everything runs better when its cooler.

I just have a simple one. $10 (was 30 or 50) on sale at office depot. 2 decent size fans, good airflow, 4 additional usb slots, it was plastic but I don't think there is much of a different. AC Adapter too.

Your question is, is $55 worth that pad? I probably wouldnt, because I don't see how it allows any airflow, and just 1 additional usb. But, if money isn't much of an object to you I would say grab it. Its something that you have picked out over countless others.
 
I've never seen that cooling pad before but it looks like that front lip will impede a disc from being inserted or ejected on the MBP. I imagine that cooling pad design will be bested suited for PC laptops that have side tray loaded drives.

yup you got an expensive notebook..so getting best brand is a better choice =)

i will check it out,but what kind of stands was it? plastic?

actually the extra usb is something that is in most cheap cooling pad..to make you buy them XD,,i honestly would pay any money if it worth it..if not then i wouldnt bother paing 5$ on it..

i think i better go to the store next week and check if its going to block the cd driver...eh wait wait the IR receiver will be covered too probably..right?! >_<
 
Yeah it looks like the IR receiver will be covered as well. It does look like a pretty significant lip but then again the MBP is quite thin.
 
Extending HDD life

Cooling pads are meant to keep the hard drive cool, thereby extending the life of the computer. I don't know if they would cool the computer to the point where the keyboard portion of the laptop itself would be cooler.

By the way, laptops are not ergonomic beasts so if you are doing a lot of work on laptops it is a great idea to use external mice, keyboards and monitors. So, when you aren't carrying the laptop around it becomes a CPU.
