Sorry if this has been asked and answered before, but I've searched for over an hour on google and on macrumors and cannot find a definitive answer. I upgraded to iOS5 on Oct. 12th and signed up for more iCloud storage on Oct. 22nd. I had a $60 positive balance from an iTunes gift card from Apple (with the purchase of my 2011 MBP) on my account at the time (and still have $57), but it still charged my credit card on file. I really would have liked to use the gift card instead since I don't really buy music... just the odd app here and there.

Was this just a bug that Apple has now fixed or is in the process of fixing or does Apple do this on purpose for some valid reason? I am thinking of upgrading to 25 GB, but would like to use the gift card and not my credit card.

I dont think you can pay for iCloud storage with iTunes credit sadly. Most lightly because iCloud is a separate entity (legally) to the worldwide iTunes companies.

don't you think calling Apple would make more sense in this situation, especially after you couldn't find any information on Google or these forums?

If you look at the time of the post, Apple was closed. I did eventually call them and they said at this time, you cannot pay for iCloud storage with an iTunes gift card.

Even if I could have called, I'm sure I'm not the only person wanting to know this and posting a thread would help other people in the future. Would you not agree?

I googled because I wanted to know this also. Reason I was wondering if because I remember when I updated my laptop to Lion I thought my cc would be charged. However the credit I had at the time was instead used.

Now I wish it work the same way.

Disappointing really.
