Hello All!

I've got a quick question for you guys. I'm getting ready to buy a new MBP (hopefully tomorrow) & I was wondering how many of you had bought one using Apple's Juniper Visa Card? When you purchase using this option, do they charge the card the full amount of $2000 (which you pay over the next 3 years + interest) or just the roughly $50/month? Also, can I pay like $500 up front & then make the monthly payments. I'm really confused...Haha. I have saved up only about half of what I need to buy my MBP, but I cannot wait to buy one. If you guys have any answers or additional info, I'd REALLY appreciate it!!

You'd be crazy to finance a laptop over three years on a credit card.

Just like any other credit card purchase. The total sale goes on to your credit card.

If you have half saved just make your first payment a really big one, like all the money you have saved for it now.

I did it for my PB. They give you a horrible APR but you have the chance of getting no interest so I paid mine within the 60 days I got. If I hadn't, all the APR that built up in that time would have added onto the total.

So if you're either willing to pay like 13% over the course of the credit or you can pay it off in 60, go for it.

If you can't afford to buy it outright, check out your bank. Chances are good they have a low-interest computer loan that they offer. That way you can pay it off in monthly payments if you need to and you won't pay the price of the laptop in interest alone. I bought my MacBook this way back in November, and it has worked great for me. I can pay the minimum payments until I graduate (2 weeks!!!) and then when I have a full-time job, I can pay off the rest and save the interest.

Can I ask what bank you use? I currently bank with Wells Fargo.

Seriously, what bank has a computer loan? It just seems unpractical for them to do this considering the depreciation of computers due rapid advancement. With the exception of Macs, computers don't hold their value really well. I wouldn't think you would be able to get a rate much better than a personal unsecured loan.

Also, if you're just about to graduate, do you really need a MBP? Make sure you're getting what you need). If you have saved up half of the cash for the MBP (~$1000) then you should only have to finance about $500-$750. With the Juniper card you have (I believe) 90 days to pay "Same as cash." If you think you can come up with the rest of the cash by then then go for it.

Since you are just getting out of school, don't get caught up in a scam for the low monthly charge. Considering a 20% interest rate (not out of line with the Juniper's calculated rate with no credit), and a 3 year finance of $2,250, you'll be paying almost an extra grand for this.

Conclusion: Don't buy this on a credit card only planning to make the minimum monthly payments.

i'm a teacher, and at my teacher's credit union, they offer a computer loan that is interest free. however, it only applies to teachers.

I am at a Educational Employees' Credit Union. My mom is a teacher. Even with a modest credit score of 600-something (this was my first major purchase), I was able to get 7% interest. Much better than the 16+% that most credit cards would try to charge. :)

help with credit card

What if I have the money fully for the MBP. Would it be smart to get the card just to get free itunes credit form the purchase? I'd pay off the MBP on the first bill. Would this be acceptable? Then I could just cancel the card eventually?

Some things to know about the Apple Juniper credit card: there is no guarantee that they will give you a high enough credit limit to cover the cost of what you are trying to buy. When you apply for the card, it is just like applying for any other card with the only exception being that if you are approved you can make a purchase right away on Apple's online store. There is a time limit given for how long you have to make the purchase, which I believe is 24 hours. If you don't make a purchase within the time limit then you have to wait for the card to come in.

If you don't have a substantial credit history (5+ years of credit, and 5+ years of steady employment), then don't count on getting a decent limit. In my case with 1 year employment, and 3 years credit history, I only got a $750 limit.

Royal Bank of Canada has similar loans for things like that. Generally just a personal loan and the amount/rate depends on your life of credit and whether the item itself can be collateral. So yeah, computer loans are often pretty easy.

Paying for mac with jupiter visa

You shouldn't pay for your mac over 3 years, that is just stupid, but if you do use Jupiter, note that you will be told you have 3 months to pay off your computer interest free. Now if you weren't planning to pay it off in 3 months, than no big deal, but if you are please note that This is ********, you have 90 calendar days to pay it off without interest. They told me 3 months & I've been paying it off & now have gotten burned with all the accrued interest because the sales people didn't tell the complete truth during their sale.

Quite frankly, if you have a card with a better interest rate, use that. This is a total scam.

Absolutely!

Not only will you get the free iTunes gift card but you will be building good credit by doing that. No need to cancel it, just don't use it.

Heh, I made that purchase so long ago now...ended up not using the Juniper Visa.
