When paying off a phone with a carrier, is it possible to do it by phone directly with the carrier and being able to, while still on the line with the agent, verify that it has been unlocked even though you are remaining with that carrier temporarily or indefinitely?
That way, one would still have the service, but the phone won't be polluted with any remnants if moving to a different carrier at any given time.
What would you check for to verify this on the phone?
If it matters, it's an iPhone 13 Pro with verizon service.

With AT&T when I paid off my XS a few months ago, I submitted an unlock request the next day and it was instant. I didn't try it with another SIM although I could have put my Verizon SIM in it to check it but I confident it worked.

As per Verizon's unlocking policy:

Assuming you've had your phone for more than 60 days, check Setting>General>About>Carrier Lock. If it says "No SIM restrictions" your phone is unlocked.

I have had it for more than 60 days.
It does say "no sim restrictions".
But I still owe money to Verizon for the phone payments.
Does that mean I can change to a different carrier even though I still have payments to make on the phone?

Correct! Your iPhone is completely unlocked, and can be moved to another carrier.

Thanks.
I thought they still held some kind of hold over its functionality as I still owe money on it.
So I don't have to pay it off before I can switch carriers then?
I know I still have to make my monthly payments on the phone, which i have no problem with, but I can continue making my payments while using a different carrier?
This is what has me concerned, it's from Verizons device unlocking policies from the link in the post above..........

You're overthinking this, my friend.

Your iPhone has an eSIM available for use, right? Try the free T-Mobile test drive. It only works with unlocked phones.
