Something I had not previously noticed, so I don't know if it is a recent change (I only noticed it because I updated a device and had to play the what unwanted features has it turned on yet again game).

On all my devices I can go to the iCloud settings and see my payment and shipping details. Only part of my card number is showing, but that is too much, especially with all the other info there.

It is especially worrying as I have devices that I use totally unlocked. I am an app developer and it is a pain typing in passcodes, or even just Touch ID on those devices that have it. Even if I could be bothered with the continual passcodes, Xcode requires the devices to be unlocked to build to them. So it is not an option.

Having the details visible is also not great for the devices that are used by others.

My solution has been to remove payment options from iTunes. I talked to Apple Support and they suggested using iTunes gift cards instead. Slightly less bad, but it is a hassle, and I have to pay fixed amounts upfront, will I bother? Any better options?

I don't really understand what your concern is? In the settings, you can only see the last 4 digits of the payment card, which are useless for a potential thief. The same information is also typically printed on receipts etc. anyway.

If you should ever lose your unlocked device, there are worse things a thief would get access to ...

It also has other information such as my address. Apple have just forced two-factor authentication, yet leave account information on view. It should need my account password before any account information is visible.

You can do that by enabling Restrictions and setting Allow Changes/Accounts to "Don't allow" (though you'll use the restrictions PIN to unlock rather than your account password).

Thank you. That works, although it is a bit clunky. Pressing my account is unresponsive rather than letting me know it is locked, and turning restrictions on/off doesn't remember which were previously set.

I have contacted Apple and suggested they set in the same as iTunes on a Mac: Select Account and it asks for the account password, which is how it should be.

You'll notice that all affected submenus in the settings are grayed out, that's how you know they are locked. If you're going to run around with a phone without passcode protection, I highly recommend to set at least the account restriction, since it also blocks access to some other critical settings.
