I was Just wondering if Apple would have an issue with people paying for their iPads in cash?? I know that they accept cash but will they still accept it for a purchase of a 64GB 3G??/ ($914), because i would understand if they had issues with having large amounts of cash in the store.:apple::apple::apple:

Sorry OP, but the Apple Store will not accept cash for any iPad. This is to prevent people for buying 'em all up and selling them on the black market.

I know it sucks. The great thing is that I believe they will accept prepaid cards. This is where your paypal card comes in handy. ;)

I sure hope you're wrong. :( I'm a credit card-less college student who plans on buying the 64GB 3G iPad with cash. I'm not gonna be happy if they turn me away...

The only time the creditcard-only rule has applied, I believe, is with the iPhones. And that was due to the AT&T contract. Since there's no contract with the 3G, I assume this would not apply.

Just call the store and ask. If you don't believe them, call 2 stores. ;)

I was just telling you all what I was told.

I don't want anyone to get any surprises come Friday.

YMMV.

Edit: Just called (again) and was told this policy was put in place a few weeks ago.

Its illegal. If you get this sh$t come friday just let them know you will be contacting your states attorney general.

You will be able to pay cash. It can not be refused on a retail product.

You are wrong sorry. Of course cash is accepted!

Pay in singles.

I wouldn't mind going up there with the $760 cash, but just to be safe, I'm going to take the plastic.

I've waited too long to be turned down at the 11th hour.

Also, if you are going to have that much cash on you, be especially careful of robbers. We know they hang around Apples stores waiting to rip your iPad right out of your hands.

It is not illegal and cash can be refused. Printed on currency is, "this note is legal tender for all debts, public and private".

Prior to making the sale, there is no debt owed by the prospective buyer to the seller, therefore, the seller can refuse cash.

If this where true wouldn't it say so on Apple's website or something? Unless Apple wants to make a lot of people upset on the 30th.

I'll call and ask tomorrow.

I am also going to call and ask tomorrow, because if i wait in line the whole day and end up not getting one because of a payment issue i will be pissed.

I went to go buy 2 ipads in cash and they tried to tell me that they only take credit card or debit. I told them that is ridiculous, when best buy takes cash for their ipads. I told him nicely to please ask his manager and he did and they took my cash. Sometimes as much as I love apple, they make it real hard and inconvenient for a person whose purchased and support their products.

I may have to cause a ruckus on Friday if I somehow can't get to the bank in time to deposit funds.

It really is preposterous that they'd do something like this. But best believe, there will be only a handful of people who come equipped with cash; everyone else will have plastic.

When me and my gf first bought iphones in dec 2008 we paid with cash. They gave us a hard time with it, and the process took alot longer then it would with credit, but they did take the cash in the end.
