PayPal has been emailing me saying my account is limited, preventing me from removing cards/bank account info and closing the account. I can't think of anything I've used PayPal for in the past year aside from a couple Mac apps and jailbreak tweaks. Has anyone else had their account limited after using it to buy jailbreak tweaks/apps/etc.?

Jailbreaking is not illegal so no reason to block any account, i believe all my donations to the devs were made by paypal as were most cydia purchases.

Beter check with paypal directly on the site, be careful of any phising mails by bogus emails.

I've spent between 100-200 on jailbreak tweaks, all with paypal, and never have an issue. Must be something else.

Are you 100% sure the email is from PayPal? It sounds like a Phishing attempt to me

100%. When I log in on paypal.com it tells me the same thing. The only way I can free up my account is to send them documents proving my address and identity. I really don't care to do any of this though, as I very rarely use the account and would rather just open a new one anyway (I don't keep money in my PP account, so nothing is locked).

I was going to send them an email asking what activity made them suspicious but before I did, wanted to make sure this wasn't a possibility. Thanks for the replies guys/girls!

Maybe someone has your email address and password?

That's all they need to use Paypal, and it doesn't matter if the account is empty or not. If it's linked to your bank account (and most Paypal accounts are) then at zero balance it draws direct from your bank account or any linked credit cards.

I'd login and check the transaction list. See if there's any recent activity you have not authorized. If you are financially secure enough you may miss a few $1.99 or 99¢ transactions here and there.

I've never had any issue with Cydia and Paypal and I've been using it to buy tweaks for quite a while.

It's easier to just call them.

I avoid phone calls at all costs. I'd rather email and go back to what I'm doing than wait on hold, have to deal with transferring back and forth, etc. I find it easier to send a detailed email and let the person decide what is best.

I did check... no transaction since I bought a jailbreak theme in May. They reported suspicious activity and limited my account on July 22nd. So either PayPal is doing a poor job at alerting me to potential fraudulent activity, or there's some other reason that I've yet to uncover.

That indicates to me that someone may have fraudulently tried to use your Paypal account and to protect you (and them) they limited it. They want proof from you because they don't know you from anyone else.

That's the way I read it anyway.

There is nothing to worry about and it is not related to you buying jailbreaks apps.

Paypal recently implemented a new system and you account can be flag for review for many many reasons.

My Account had been flag twice in the last month. First time was due to me moving, and it turn out that the person that moved to my old address got into some issues with the law (somehow that got back to paypal and it matched my previews address).

Second time, was due to multiple logins from different locations, this was due to me using Paypal and BillmeLater from 3 location in a 2 days period. Again, I just email them my information and ID forms and in just a few hours my account was up and running again.

Paypal does not care that you're purchasing tweaks. It's very possible that someone is phishing your username and password. Give them an email or call to see what's up.

I think this may be why I got flagged. I recently moved, but in May. I guess Paypal ran a check on my card associated with the account and saw the billing address had changed and they limited the account.

So that must be the explanation. Thanks again everybody :)

They fixed my limited account issues in less than 10 minutes when I called. Suit yourself emaing is sloooow

Paypal has mine limited for adding money to my account from my bank account since february lol, I can receive and send money just can't load money on paypal as paypal balance (which is something I never do). According to them is due to some bank regulations and stuff. Anyways they want me to send 3 things, photo id, bill and my SS. I sent them a copy of an electric bill and though it was 1/3 that was needed, but it seems they want all three. So I just left it like that since I don't care for them to have my photo id nor my social security and it doesn't affect my account in any real way.

Meh. 4 out of 5 times I use the phone for cust. support, it takes 15+ minutes to come to a resolve. At least when I email, it's documented on my end and I'm not waiting on hold just to explain my problem before actually getting an answer.

Whoa. That sucks, man.
