I have recently begun to experience a large round dark area, just slightly smaller than the diameter of a CD in the lower right hand side of my 2.5 year old powerbook. I have apple care until the end of September of 07.

It only manifests itself when the computer has either been asleep or turned off for a period of time (typically the longest for me is a few hours during the day that it may be off or at most a period of overnight while I am sleeping)

It seems as though after 5-10 minutes it goes away presumably as the pixels are "warming up" or whatever it is that pixels do.

The closest apple store is an hour away, I don't really have time between two part time jobs, freelance jobs, and finishing up a few courses to take that drive. There is a small local shop, but they require a 100.00 fee to "diagnose the problem" where I think the problem could be as simple as the display is starting to go.

In case anyone wonders... I have had this in a hard sided protective case since the first month I had the computer. I travel with it every day from work and class and take great care of the machine.

I am wondering what to do. Suggestions as to what it might be, and my best course of action?

Thanks in advance.
