bad sound. won't boot off disc. scouring forums.

I found advice on a forum to boot in command line and "fsck -yf" I did so and it's been hung at the "***checking catalog file" line now for a long time. Should I let it keep going? Analysis?

Do you meant to say "Sounds bad" or do you literally have problem with the laptop's sound output? Or is your laptop making starnge noise?

By disk, do you mean the "Software Install/Restore or OS X Install Disk" or the Hard Drive of your laptop?

Have you run disk utility yet? Is the S.M.A.R.T. status showing as "Verified"?

-Laptop is making a loud strange nose.
-I mean the hard drive
-I let disk utility scan the HD for about 10 mins and stopped out of fear.

I'm not very knowledgeable about troubleshooting and might not be able to find your problem. It's just that I have my Powerbook HD fail before and thought you could be having a similar problem. ^_^

Hmm… does the noise sounds electronic or mechanic?

You should try letting disk utility complete its diagnosis. It can't really make your problem worst (Unless the fans aren't working).

The noises are mechanical. Well c'est la vie? I have applecare, do you know how long they will take to do repairs?
