Every year I upgrade my iPad to public beta and leave my iPhone on the stable update.

There's always bugs but I just let them iron themselves out with the usually frequent updates, reporting where I can and trying to help out (isn't that what a public beta is all about?)

Usually once the majority are squashed, late August time - I upgrade my iPhone too. The iPhone then stays on PB til the new phone comes out and the cycle is complete.

I get to play with the flashy new stuff early on and there's little/no risk to my phone which I rely on for work etc etc etc

Anyway, this year there seems to be more people than ever requesting downgrade instructions etc, even on iPads/secondary devices? Is it that bad? Surely on an iPad you can just wait for the next release to roll out?

Mine is backing up now in preparation but seeing these forums is stopping me from biting the bullet. What shall I do?

Was particularly excited this year given the iPad focus!

So no less functional really than iOS 10?
I am having constant "accessory not supported" messages with Apple OEM chargers/cables, App store wont update apps for me, notifications wont clear, iMessage is bugging out on me, and can't clear all apps out of multitasking tray. Beta 2 is a lot less stable than Beta 1 for me. This is all on my iPad. Typically I install the PB on my iPhone, but I am very glad that I didn't. These betas are definitely less stable than iOS 10.

Also a lot of springboard crashes on beta 2. Didn't have any on beta 1.

I’ve been running the dev beta 2 and so far I’ve not really noticed many bugs apart from the app switcher and some overheating when performing certain operations mainly when using safari on 4G

Which is odd as on my iPhone 7 and iPad Pro 9.7 I'm having no problems charging, I can clear the multitasking tray without issue and I'm having no springboard crashes at all.

A few apps crash now and again but those apps haven't been updated for iOS 11 yet so that's normal.

There are quite a few reports of the accessory not supported issue in the larger Beta 2 thread. There is a workaround but its a pain in the butt. You have to attach the cable to the device first, then plug it into the wall or computer.

I'm REALLY peed off with the PB!

Can't log into App Store or anything that requires AppleID log in.

So can't access my Apple Music and pretty much all my apps are dimmed out and unusable.

Unless there is a fix in the next beta (not optimistic as the prob has been a there for folks from the first beta), it's looking like I'm going to have to restore as new phone and go through the faff of reinstalling and setting up as I had it before.

Never had such a catastrophic problem with public betas before.

Apple really rushed the PB on this one. After the downgrade issue before the revision, PB should have been delayed. First PB that is not stable.

I'm pretty much in the same boat. This is the first time I haven't immediately jumped on the beta after WWDC. Very glad I waited and I'm even avoiding the public beta after seeing all of the downgrade threads.

I am using it on my iPhone SE. My biggest complaint is that it is a laggy beast. Any bugs I am dealing with are not deal breakers and pretty common from other IOS betas I have used.

edit: oh and the battery life is abysmal.

I think this iOS 11 case might be special, since you don't hear about people downgrading unless they have an issue with it. Last year could've been the same with people going from 10 back to 9 but there weren't any downgrading issues so we didn't hear about it.

Or it could be because iOS 11 is a buggy hot mess

Honestly, I have had ZERO issues with mine (7+). Installed it about 20 hours ago. No Watch issues, AirPods work perfectly, battery life is decent. No springboard crashes (yet). So yeah. Even seems faster than before. Your mileage may vary, obviously, but no issues to report yet here.

All is not lost for me.....

Downloaded iOS 10.3.3 PB4 and had no problem downgrading.
Thankfully my iCloud backup worked and is restoring.

If all goes well I'll try iOS11 when it's much more stable.

I can put up with a few bugs but not those that prevent me from using my iPhone.

Battery life is very poor as well. Something is running on the background and the usage and standby times are always equal.

This issue has existed since the first developer beta and the reason I have upgraded and downgraded twice so far. Really can't understand why Apple thought it was a good idea to release a public beta with this potential showstopper unresolved.

It is a little bit of a pain, but that's what a beta is. I installed on my mini 4, because I wanted to play around with it and it's not bad for the most part, but I'm not going to even touch my 6+...I don't use my ipad as much as my phone and wouldn't be able to deal with a super buggy ios beta on it. I won't be downgrading my iPad though.

Did you have difficulty setting up 2F authentication? Works fine for moi on iPPro 10.5

Yeah, I think it was iOS 9 (or was it 8?) PB #2 that you couldn't take a call if your headphones were plugged in. I mean, you could, but there'd be zero audio. You had to unplug the headphones first, answer the call, then plug them back in again.

That kinda sucked.

Having no problems software or hardware wise on iPhone 6s or iPad Pro 9.7.

It would help if folks with problems would identify what version iPhone/iPad they are using. So do, so don’t.
