PB Photo library "restore"

When I updated yesterday I noticed a bit of a lag at first and discovered that my Photo library of about 2500 images along with 6 or so sub folders was being "restored" (actually said Restoring....". This took about 20 minutes as the count of photos increased to the final total and then the folders populated and new folders were created for Selfies and Screenshots (which means it was scanning my whole library to find these). After it finished doing its thing the phone was much more responsive. I only noticed this restore after I opened Photos. I wonder if this is happening behind the scenes on every update or whether I was just "lucky".

Anyone else see this?

Yes. Not only does it slow down the phone and hog processor time, but it makes the device warm. Moreover, has a huge drain on the battery. Looking at my usage over the past 24 hours, photos has like 40% of battery usage of all apps.
When people say iOS 9 has poor performance & battery life, they don't realize that the software is doing a lot of things in the background to get things in place. It's best to judge battery life in a day or two.

I'm actually very satisfied with the stability of iOS 9 on my iPhone 6 considering it is still so early into a beta. Apart from some app crashes (which will be fixed by the developer) and minor aesthetic inconsistencies, the OS itself has way less dropped frames vs. iOS 8.4.
