PB - Power Plug question

I'm trying to ressurect my PowerBook, a part of the plug at the end of the power adapter broke inside the PowerBooks power "port".

I bought a new adapter but because this small piece of metal is stopping the new adapter from fitting, I can't get power to it to switch it on.

Now, I'm fairly handy with fixing things but I'd rather know if the theory of taking it apart to fix it will work before I go out and buy all the right Torx screwdrivers etc (because I don't have any of the right tools for the job).

So does anyone with PowerBook knowledge know if I can get access to this part?

I know I can take it somewhere to get it fixed but it's not worth it (the thing is a good few years old) plus it's not as fun.

These guys have some disassembly guides. I found it via a quick Google search. I'm sure there's more out there. I'm also positive there is an MR member who has disassembled for one reason or another. Maybe you'll get another response.

Personally, I enjoy my PB because it works so flawlessly I haven't had to open it up for any reason! Unlike my previous Compaq, which I just left open because it sucked so...

if it broke inside the port, you should be able to take it out without having to take apart the laptop, no? maybe using very thin pliers?

I have tried though it hasn't worked. The PowerBook is now in pieces all over my desk.

These things collect a lot of dust and gunk!

Hopefully going to give it a great clean!
