PC favorites to a Mac

hey, just got my new 15" Powerbook , which i love!, and was wondering how i could get the favorites from my PC to load into the powerbook, any easy way to drag and drop? or do i have to manually visit each site and re-save it as a bookmark?

any help would be much appreciated

hmmmmmm....try this

find the folder on your pc. drag it over to your mac and to safari and just drop it in the bookmark area. might just do all the work for you. it is probably just as easy as doing that or draging all the folders and file that are in that favorites folder.

Most browsers save bookmarks as a single file. Internet Explorer (Windows) saves each bookmark (favorite) as a separate file. It's a huge pain when they don't play by the rules. But varmint has a good idea, it's possible that if you drag your stuff into Safari and it will know what to do. I call that "Mac Magic". If it doesn't work, look into one of the other Windows broswers (Mozilla, Opera) and see if they will import IE favorites. Their bookmarks should be compatible with Safari.

It seems more complicated than that. IE's bookmarks for MacOS 9 is a single file named "Favorites.html." (There is a also a file called "DefaultsFavorites.html.") I have yet to find a similarly named file in MacOS X. I suspect that IE for MacOS X's bookmarks and history files are stored inside the application bundle. The implications are that it is a lot of work to transfer IE bookmarks across platforms or even across versions of the MacOS.

In OS X it's probably in your user folder...

YourDriveName/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/Exploder/Favorites.html

IE on the Mac (classic and OS X) does it right and keeps all of your bookmarks in 1 file. It's only the Windows version that makes them individual files. If you're coming to Safari from any other Mac browser it's easy to import the bookmarks. If you're coming from Windows IE then it's guesswork.
