Ok, yesterday I had my entire evening to tryout iChat, AOL Messenger and Yahoo Messenger.

I had my friend in Venezuela with her PC computer. I had my video camera working here, the results:

-iSight seems good but the software the PC side need (the AOL Instant Messenger) can only run on XP and it may need an extra pluging to be capable of receiving video. In other words, too messy. We spent a bit more than an hour setting up that one. Sorry Apple, iSight still Mac only if things are like that.

-Then, after a few hours of trying I got to the Yahoo web site. They had this Messenger too with video capability. We both downloaded and in less than 15 minutes we were chatting and she was able to see me in her computer. The frame rate was like 4 to 7 frames per second maybe but at list it worked just like that.

So, Apple needs to find a more reliable partner on the PC side, for sure I would recomend having a PC version of iChat that can run on Windows 98, XP, etc, etc.

Ok, that was it.

Do you know any other software capable of video conferencing between both platforms?

did you hear about the new beta from isight? should work with the windows version of aol messenger (aim)...

Yeah, I think that's what he tried, but it wasn't a smooth operation.
Gonna have to try out Yahoo.

No, I didn't try the beta with windows, but actually the iChat with AOL doesn't work like that. I mean, I try ti insert my aol name and iChat doesn't recognize it. Still not reliable.

If the new iChat comes with windows messenger compatibility I really would like to see that working.

I have girlfriends in other part of the world that really would like to take a look at me and viceversa.
