PC overheating?

that is *way* hot. consider getting some arctic silver 5 thermal grease, or perhaps upgrading your hsf. also more case fans, or running them at a faster speed also helps. my athlon 64 3500+ is only 47 celsius and i just finished a session of doom 3...
Sounds high to me. My guess is either the case is very restrictive so you have very high ambient temperatures inside or the heatsink is not making very good contact to the CPU core. I guess you could have a failing fan but generally you'd hear it (should be noisy).
I'd say your idle should ideally be in the 40's and your full loads in the high 50's to very low 60's... AMD does say their CPUs can go as high as 90C or so but I dont think they mean for it to run there all the time. Just means it wont get damaged I think.
What cpu cooler are you using and what case? Make sure any fans on the front of the case are blowing in and anything on the back are blowing out. Maybe by accident one is reversed....

that it is very hot, but before you go out buying things you may not need, check that there is not too much thermal compound already on it and double check that the heatsink is correctly placed making good contact and seated properly!
i just noticed your graphics card, a 6800gt. how is that positioned in your case? is it passively or actively cooled? is there plenty of room for air to circulate around it and the processor? in some smaller cases a big card like that can get in the way of the cpu's airflow and heat it up. just a thought 
I don't know if there is a big difference between processors when it comes to recommended temperatures, but my iMac G5's processor is at about 65 degrees C. I know according to shockwidgets.com a processor shouldn't go above 70-80 C.

I'm talking about a different AMD system I have for sale. BTW: It is now idiling a 43 c and full load at 57c. Better huh! Its amazing what removing some thermal paste can do!
UPDATE! I have overclocked it 200 mhz and i am running a 43c idel and 48 full load. I fount some "silver" thermal paste and moved PCI slot fan behind the AGP card. Of corse, now it has to sit right next to a open window and face the cold, Oregon weather! Just hope it does not rain while I use it!
