A collegue at work just passed me a copy of July 2006 PC Pro mag which has a headline of Vista vs Apple. I should have guessed from the mag's title "PC Pro" that it would be biased but man, it makes you angry!

Going thru it says that OS X is clunky interface compared to Vista... Oh yes don't mention that OSX has been out for years and Vista isn't even here yet...

Security it says in Vista is brilliant but needs a virus checker. Mac it says is good but only because people don't have enough Macs to make it a vialble target.

Bundled Apps is the best! It says Vista rocks with Movie Maker and Picture Viewer, but Apple sucks as its bundled apps are limited to Appleworks and Quicktime. iDVD and iMovie it says are OK but cost you £55 extra even though you just paid over the odds for the Mac! Hello.....its free...

Makes you angry as I took a barrage of abuse saying "how good is you Mac now eh" but you can't make people see how biased and wrong the article is.

And people who right this article don't deserve to be able to do this without understanding what they are writing about. Shame on them...

(someone posted this before me, and I apologize for the mimickry. It's just too good.)

Don't let it get under your skin. The PC camp will always be biased in favor the Windows OS. From my experience, trying to have a rational dialogue with them is quite difficult. Is there a link to this article? If so, please provide so that others can read it and draw our own conclusions.

Meh.. it's more FUDtardery. I wouldn't let it get to you. Clearly the writer didn't spend the time to actually research the materials to make informed opinions (either pro/con).

i just installed Vista beta 2 on my pc (dont have a mac yet) and to tell you the truth, I would rather have windows XP. It is slow, too many, "trying to be cool visual features" and a million popups like, ARE YOU SURE you want to do this, ect. It sucks, Im getting a mac, im tired of pcs. I will always have my desktop for games and other PC stuff, but my Mac will become my personal comptuer.

The answers are "Just as good as it was yesterday" and try a real life

Don't even try to convince people who don't want to listen. Don't get angry about it or waste any more time refuting it.

To be honest, even though I've a cheapie 2ndhand mac on the way, I'll retain my old Duron 1200/512MB/Radeon9250, mainly for the games that it still runs! Plus syncing with a Windows Mobile 5 device.

On that point, can you get Outlook for the mac?

It's called Entourage - and why they renamed only one of the Office Suite apps is beyond me - but it's Outlook. Part of MS Office for the Mac.

To the OP: wait until Leopard is unveiled at WWDC in a little over a month. It'll release at about the same time as Vista. Your revenge will be sweet. Serve it cold.

who cares? Vista is vaporware and I'll bet it never sees the light of day, at lest not in it's current form. It'll probably get renamed a few more times, and none of the functionality in the current beta will be in it.

hmm I really want to see this issue. Perphaps I'll check the website to see if they've posted the article electronically like macaddict/macworld magazine does sometimes.

Almost as funny as http://mac-sucks.com/

Actually, if you make it through to the end, they do say that, and they point out that Leopard is coming. They just say that while they would prefer to compare Vista to Leopard, they have no way of doing so at the moment.

Yay! Go Apple:D

I have used vista for about a week and just took it off my computer this morning. It was Beta 2 Public and it was buggy, slow (on a very fast laptop with a 256MB graphics card) and the interface was rather confusing. I prefer XP over Vista. After running Vista, I am convinced mac osx is the only way to go for now.

Hey let the Idiot's at PC world sell that turd vista to the public..

Mean's we can keep this far superior operating system to ourselves and make all those struggling with pc apps / virus checkers / spyware removers / BSOD and general crappiness to themselves.....

PC Pro is a big pile of ***** anyway.. So I guess Vista just felt more at home there :D

Amen to that bro. After trying Beta 2 myself, it just reminded me how utter crap Windows truly is - no matter what guise it's in.

Well another veiw is most reviews here are very anti M$ and pro apple and anything that is not people complain about. Some more than others. Wouldnt surpise me it if very clearly pro M$. I like more balance review any how. Pro either way suck and most of pro one way or the other. I quite reading a tech guy in the paper because he was so pro apple it was making me sick and his reivew wher rather worthless because it was so pro apple. I want balance.

Just a counter point.

But comparing Vista to OSX even though OSX has been out for years is fair game. People compare Tiger to XP all the time and Tiger is new XP is 5 years old. Thats fair game.

Yeah you do have to see both sides for sure. That is why I tried out Vista Beta 2 for awhile. I just could not get behind it. XP is ok in my book tho.. I just prefer OSX.

All these computer magazines have to show favour to PC's/Windows. Look at their actual editorial content, most of it is geared towards fixing the millions of problems you find in Windows, tackling viruses, different pieces of software to make Windows more accessable because so much of it is counter-intuitive.

Also, most importantly, look who their advertising sponsors are. In the UK at least, on the inside cover of every PC magazine is a huge Dell spread. How do you think they'd react if any of these computer magazines suddenyl said "ditch Windows, get a Mac!"?!?

Every magazine will have a bias to please their target audience. You'll never hear Macworld or MacAddict praising Windows Vista even if it becomes a viable OS.

We'd better get used to these type's of articles popping up in the media, as more are sure to follow.....Just don't let it affect you and be happy with the wonderful world of OS X ;)

I have seat time with both...

Now, to be fair, Vista isn't released yet and OSX has been around for eons.

Vista:
I installed Vista Beta 2 on two systems. One, an HP laptop (3.2 GHz, 2 GB RAM, 64MB GeForce2Go). Here it didn't like my video card so I didn't get all the fancy UI tricks. It upgraded over XP but was very sluggish and I didn't get the eye candy. I will be nuking this system and going back to XP. The other, a Dell XPS (3.6 GHz Dual Core Extreme, 2 GB RAM, 256MB ATI X850) I installed separately. It recognized most of my hardware and it did find my machine worthy of the full eye-candy settings. But even here it was sluggish comapred to XP. I wasn't impressed with the visuals (smoke glass Window borders, transparency, etc.). It was painful to get my dual monitor display recognized correctly (and to make matters worse my 2nd display is rotated 90 degrees). Luckily ATI had Vista drivers on its website and EVENTUALLY I got my dual-head set up correctly. In the end, at this point I think I'll just stay with XP until I need to upgrade to Vista. I never liked the 3rd party shell enhancements like Object Desktop because they just bring the system to a crawl -- but Vista feels like it's in the same boat, like it's an Object Desktop theme applied to XP.

OS X:
I still find some things annoying, but there really isn't anything radically new here to compare against (until Leopard?). I still have my little dislikes but the fancy UI candy isn't as intrusive as it is with Vista, and it feels much snappier overall.
