I installed a EFI Flashed AMD 7950, and now my PCI-E and Power Supply Fan are running much faster according to istat (1600RPM). When I had a EFI Flashed 6870 I was also getting the same issue with the loud\fast fans. Anyone experience this? I did a SMC reset (unplug power cord for 30 seconds, plug back in, wait 30 seconds then power on). I also did a PRAM reset and no luck. I even reflashed the card back to original non-EFI and the issue remains, I'm going to swap my apple 4870 back in and see if that helps, but if it doesn't, is there anything I can do? Am I doing the SMC reset properly?

Just noticed something interesting\scary. If I open up StarCraft 2 and play the game, the fans all return to stock speeds (600RPM), even after exiting the game my fans are still spinning at normal speeds again. It's weird that something that stresses the card will cause the system fans to spin down, but sitting at the desktop will cause the fans to spin up.

It has been known that stressing the GPU would return the PCI fan to its default setting. You could download the OpenGL Extensions Viewer from the App Store and run the test in full screen as suggested in the first post of this thread.

thanks for posting that, I'll try Open GL Extensions Viewer
