I have a mid 2012 / early 2013 MacBook Pro 15" Retina A1398 model which I upgraded to 1TB courtesy of MacSales. I also got an external USB enclosure for the old SanDisk SD5SL2-512G-1205E SSD which was in there before.

Now trying to find a PCIe card so I can re-use the old 512GB SSD in my 2012 Mac Pro 5,1.

I think its a 7 + 17 pin and so far struggled.

I suspect the MacBook Air used the same part per http://pc-adapter.net/products/833.html

Anyone got any suggestions?

AFAIK, that's a SATA SSD, you need to find a PCIe card that can install that particular SSD with a SATA controller onboard (prefer SATA III). Not a simple PCIe SSD adaptor.

Doug from Microsatacables seems to have a solution. Ordered and will report back

Also go an M.2 PCIe Card so will try that with an NVME Drive (non bootable) for my user folder, which is currently on a spinning drive. Boot drive is via an Apricorn solo so hoping to get a speed boost here

Did you ever get the cable, and does it work?
