Well, I can stop looking then. Thanks, my captain.

Bear this in mind, only one SM951 UBX SSD controller can negotiate a link in a PCIE slot. The only way two can negotiate the link is if they both negotiate with a chip on the adapter card first. But these adapters are only pass through devices.

^^^^A 5,1 is the last of the cMPs (Classic Mac Pro). And, just a question - But, did you even read the link I posted?

^^^^And here's my 5,1 with X5677s, SM951 AHCI mounted on an Angelbird Wings board.

I'm confused or missing something . What then is company talking about http://amfeltec.com/products/pci-express-carrier-board-for-m-2-ssd-modules/

Essentially this just links it to x8 lanes, 4 per M.2 slot - you can achieve the same by splitting up the lanes in 2 slots (i have some interesting data on such for my 4,1 but the project is not done yet).

There should be PLX switched cards with only x4 for both and minimal logic that possibly even enables an unencrypted RAID1 to achieve full link speed of one SSD but at a price.

^^^^Not with an Amfeltec in slot 4 it won't. You need to use slot 2. Unlike the Lycom or Angelbird that only hold one SM951 and is a 4 lane card. The Amfeltec holds up to four SM951s and is a 16 lane card. Both the Lycom and Angelbird have a problem in slot 2, the Amfeltec does not!

Oh brilliant, I get it! I just emailed for the price and the card clocks in at $367.38 so all together it would be about $1500. That's a lot to spend, but it's some insane I/O per dollar.
