Can you use any pcie sata card in a mac pro to connect an internal DVD drive?
Can the drive be used to boot from a disk when connected this way?
Thanks for any advice.

Hello,

Can't get a generic answer: some pcie cards allow booting, others don't. Which card do you have in mind?

I was looking at one like this:
StarTech 2 Port PCI Express Internal SATA II Controller Card

Hello,

I've never tried this card. But do a search for asm 1061 on ebay, and you'll find a lot of 2+2 cards that are known to boot Mac OS.

Make sure they have stable Lion drivers. Many of them broke support post SL, and you may want to use something past that at some point in the life of the computer if a particular program will not run on an older OS revision. Also make sure it doesn't conflict with the esata device you're connecting, not that this is a common issue.
