I've got the Mac Pro 3,1. Just because I'm curious, can I use a PCIe SSD like the one here in it without any third-party drivers or hacking? I've never dealt with these before and don't know if I need drivers or something.
Yes, but for the blister version like linked you'll need an adapter like described here. There's a version with adapter included as well. I use 128GB one as a boot drive and it's perfect for my needs. In a 3,1 you'd need to put it in slot 1 or 2, otherwise you'll get only a half speed of the SSD.

NØ, øf cøurse nøt. I build my øwn hardware frøm scratch and was in the prøcess øf building an easy t use PCIe flash card until yøu shøwed up. Wøuld have gøtten 200 thingies før it.
