I know there are a few of you running pdanet for your tethering needs.

version 1.60 has been released on cydia and now there's a mac client that supports snow leopard.

the two methods remain: wifi and usb tethering.

Works very well so far.

No luck for me with Snow Leopard

Did you do anything after the installation to get it to work?

I upgraded PdaNet on my iPhone to 1.60 today.

I then installed 1.10 beta on my MBP running 10.6.1 and rebooted. It didn't create a new network connection. With the PdaNet app set to USB mode I connected my iPhone to my MBP and clicked connect.

The connection screen blinks on my iPhone and that's all it does. No connection is established.

Any idea? Thanks.

I just tried it on a second computer and it worked out of the box. I don't see any difference in the configuration of my machines, same version of the OS, same file used for the install and iTunes Helper in the startup items. hmmm

I still say the heck with PdAnet and just get the native tethering, so much easier

I had to go into network preferences and add another ethernet interface. The new one is labeled en4. I had forgotten that I deleted it before.

That didn't work for me. No other interface was available, but I did find out on another forum that:

10.5.8 = USB and Bluetooth tethering working great
10.6 - 32 bit kernel = USB and Bluetooth tethering working great
10.6 - 64 bit kernel = Bluetooth tethering only working

With the 64 bit kernel I got a message on the console stating that it can't find a USB Ethernet kext for the 64 bit kernel. I rebooted in 32 bits and the missing network interface was created.

All is fine ! :D

The reason I'm using PdaNet instead of the native solution is that with PdaNet my iPhone doesn't know it's tethering. It doesn't display the blue bar on top of the screen. So if my iPhone doesn't even know it's tethering, I'm assuming AT&T probably does know it either. Of course I'm not going crazy and downloading five movies a night on torrrents. So far I did approximately 1-1.5 Gb per month and my wife is doing about the same and it all seems ok.

Check the IP address on your Safari browser on your iPhone and on the browser on your computer with both methods. With PdaNet it shows the same IP. I didn't try it with my iPhone but with my Blackberry when it displayed "Modem Enabled" the IP address was different and thus easier to track by the carrier, IMO. Maybe I'm just being overly cautious.

Anyone have a problem with the mac USB client giving the error message "PdaNet is not detected on your iPhone, please make sure it has been installed from Cydia."? I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, with and without reboot. Nothing seems to work. WiFi mode still works fine.

Yep, I've got exactly the same error. It works fine on my Windows laptop.

I've got a case raised with June Fabrics, but no resolution yet....

How is:

1. Tap Power or Home button.
2. Slide to unlock.
3. Click Settings.
4. Click General.
5. Click Network.
6. Click Internet Tethering.
7. Toggle Internet Tethering "on"...

-easier than:

1. Click "connect" in PdaNet menu bar icon?

Almost doesn't seem worth it to tether with only Edge speeds..

Tethering on EDGE is actually not bad - I did it for 20 months on my iPhone 2G...

I just leave internet tethering on .... no need to toggle it off and on.

haha... dont spoil snides fun!

snide, you still havent added the 'take iphone out of pocket' step! im telling you, if people see you post 8 steps instead of 7 you are sure to convert more users to pdanet.

As long as we're having "fun", can you tell us with certainty that leaving tethering on has no effect on battery life?
Beside the fact that every time you plug in your iPhone, it will automatically tether whether you want to or not...

FWIW, I couldn't care less what tethering method anyone uses. MiWi is the only one that creates a true hot spot,
and so it's currently my favorite.

So leave your tethering on and enjoy the blue bar (and auto tethering) every time you plug in.
I prefer to have control over what my device does - and how I connect to the internet. :p

When I try and install the desktop client (MBA RevA 10.6.1) I get an error from the installer program and... nothing?

I got a response from June Fabrics. They say it's an issue specific to the 3G and that they will have a patch soon.

This is not very convincing. My wife and I both have the 32Gb 3G and I got it to work on Snow Leopard on my Mac Mini and on my MacbookPro 5,5 last week.

The only problem I encountered is that my MBP was setup to boot in 64bits instead of 32bits. Apparently the kext for the iPhone ethernet card was not ported to the 64bits platform. As soon as I switched back my MBP to boot in 32bits it detected my iPhones and I got it working with both phones on both computers.

Thanks for the tip. June fabrics forgot to put that in their FAQ. USB mode seems a lot easier on the battery than using WiFi.
