Has anyone else noticed PDANet does not like to reconnect to the same ad hoc if you disconnect from it.

For example: I will disconnect from my ad hoc I created and shut off wireless and PDANet on the iPhone but leave the ad hoc created on the MBP. Come back to reconnect, turn on the wireless, it will see the formally used ad hoc and connect to it. The wifi icon will not change from 3G because the phone remembers it was not able to successfully connect to the internet via the ad hoc. Start and turn on PDANet and it thinks you are not connected to an ad hoc.

What solves this problem for me is either telling the iphone to forget the ad hoc and rejoin, which does not always work, or more reliable is creating a new ad hoc under a different name. I do always password protect my ad hoc's just FYI.

Is this just me or are others experiencing similar problems?

I quite frequently have exactly the same problem, it's really frustrating!!

It makes something that should be quick and simple to use really annoying and quite frustrating. I have reported the problem to them, but as of yet so response, i am certainly not paying for it till they sort this out!!

Cheers

Gareth

I have the exact opposite of that problem. Sometimes PDAnet will not let me connect to a new connection, like on a friends computer. I never have a problem connecting to my ad-hoc network i originally created.

don't know if this is the same problem, but my PC keeps losing the wifi connection with my iphone 3G after a few minutes. I set it up and it is working fine. I have the iphone plugged into the wall, and I turn off the screen. a few minutes of bliss, then i notice the wifi connection on my pc is gone. when i turn on the iphone in wifi settings it still thinks it is connected.

help!

Forget this app...

They're collecting $$$ and with rumors of official tethering from AT&T, they are losing incentives to support this app.

After a lot of trial/error, I've finally come to learn how to deal with this problem. I have been able to get rid of the disconnects 100% by using a different wireless card. The problem seems to stem from the fact that the iPhone has some issues with certain wifi chipsets. Note that all my wifi adapters work fine and I've never had a problem with them other than staying connected to the iPhone via an adhoc network.

Works: Orinoco card (Agere chipset) and Intel-based card (Centrino chipset)
Doesn't work: Atheros chipset based internal wifi adapter

Note that adhoc connections between these two (say one laptop with an Orinoco card and one with an Atheros-based) work fine; it's only when the iPhone is involved that the connection is flaky.

Now that I've switched, my adhoc wifi connection is rock solid! :D

Having flaky connections with Dell Wireless 1395 card

It looks like it has Broadcom chipset.
Is there any solution to this problem.
I have to disconnect from my iphone and re-connect.
This works but is annoying.
